The Ytterbium/Erbium doped NaYF4 nanoparticles were synthesized by a modified thermal-decomposition method. Currently this product is spherical with a diameter from 10-15nm. The particles were stabilized chemically to generate a hydrophilic surface. After the hydrophilic modification, the particles can be dispersed in ethanol or any other polarized solvents, such as water or propanol, to form a stable colloidal solution. The emission intensity is higher than most of the fluorescence dye and could be noticed by naked eyes under regular in-door environment. The life time of the particles are close to unlimited due to the special mechanism. The fluorescence can’t be quenched by heat, surface modification, UV exposure, acid/base or aggregation.
